24 years of hands-on experience

Clare qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 2002. She opened her own clinic in Armitage in 2011 and moved to Market Street in Lichfield in November 2021.

Her treatment is practical and hands-on: soft tissue work, articulation, mobilisation and stretching, followed by exercises to build strength. If your problem needs something other than osteopathy, she will say so and refer you to the right person.

“Every patient who walks through my door is a whole person, with their own worries and stresses, and I am often their last resort.”

More about Clare

Your first appointment

The first visit lasts long enough to get to the bottom of the problem and, in most cases, to start treatment.

  1. We talk

Clare asks about your pain, your health, your work and what you want to get back to. Nothing is rushed.

  2. She examines you

How you stand, bend and move, plus nerve and joint tests where needed, to find where the problem is coming from.

  3. You get treated

Hands-on treatment: soft tissue work, mobilisation and stretching, explained as she goes.

  4. You keep moving

A few exercises chosen for you, so the improvement lasts after you leave.

Common questions

Do I need a GP referral to see an osteopath?
No. You can book directly with Clare. If anything in your history or examination needs your GP’s attention, she will tell you and can write to your GP with your permission.
What happens at my first appointment?
Clare takes a full case history, covering your symptoms, general health, medication, work and lifestyle. She then examines how you move, checks nerves and joints where needed, explains what she thinks is going on and, if it is appropriate, starts treatment the same day. You will leave with advice and usually a few exercises.
What should I wear?
Clare may need to see the area she is treating, so wear comfortable clothes you can move in, or underwear you are happy to be examined in. Shorts and a vest top are fine. You can bring someone with you to any appointment.
Does osteopathy hurt?
Treatment should not be painful. Some techniques feel firm, and you may feel a little sore for a day or two afterwards, much like after exercise. Clare checks how you are throughout and adjusts what she does.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem and how long you have had it. Many recent problems improve in two to four sessions. Long-standing pain usually takes longer and works best with exercise at home. Clare will give you an honest idea at the first visit.
How much does it cost?
A first appointment is £95, follow-up treatment is £70 and a re-assessment is £80. Home visits are £120. See the fees page for details.
Can I claim on my health insurance?
Clare is recognised by Bupa and is fee-assured. Her Bupa list is currently full for new Bupa-insured patients until 2027; existing patients are not affected. If you have another insurer, check with them whether they cover a registered osteopath before you book.
